Story Book Romance Pt. 1

Love
noun, verb, loved, lov.ing.
-noun
1. a profoundly tender, passionate affection for another person

As children, our heads are filled with romanticised life stories about a distressed princess and a white knight who comes to her rescue. As we get older, we try to hold on to those fantasies that those damn Disney writers have created. Some find their story book white knight. But if you're anything like me, you've gone through hell and back, endured all kinds of heart breaks, shed countless tears for those who don't deserve them, and still find yourself single (sometimes with the hope you'll find "the one", sometimes not).

I've prided myself on being a "serial dater", in fact I've been known to advertise it a time or two. It's a good tool to have when you're young. But let's be honest, I don't want to be in my forties and being known as that (very well aged) woman who's dated every 'Peter, Paul, and Mary' in the tri-state area. But after every bad relationship, which is every relationship I've ever had, I tend to go into, what I like to call, my "pessimistic phase" which is why I stay cloaked in my first date robe.

Pessimistic Phase: The period of time in which I swear off all men and future relationships.

The phase doesn't last too long. In reality, all it takes is a couple days and a new man to focus my attention on. If all goes well, then the cycle goes on again.

1. The "talking" stage
2. The "hanging out/ slightly awkward" stage
3. The first kiss
4. The "newly dating" stage
--- # 2, 3, & 4 don't always happen in that order .. in fact they come in a variety of combos ---
5. The "semi-casual relationship" stage
6. The "serious relationship/honeymoon" stage
7. The "one gets too comfortable while the other gets too clingy" stage
8. The "fighting" stage
9. The "pointless fighting" stage
10. and finally, the inevitable break up

this is the usual cycle I regrettably take part of with every man I've ever been with, that is until I met Dean*. This man is arguable the most beautiful man I've ever had the pleasure of knowing, in fact, I'd dub him the "eighth world wonder".

Stay tuned for Pt. 2
